October Fun

The first day of October is here, can you believe it!!  I love this month, it is one of my favorites. The weather is getting a bit cooler and it marks the beginning of lots of fun holidays and activities.  I have to confess I have been a bit absent lately because October is also the beginning of surf season here.  The surf has been up and I have been in the water almost everyday:))  I thought blogging had beat out my surfing obsession, but I was wrong, lol! But it's not just me, when the surf is up everyone is out in the water.

Today is also the first day of my Fall Break.  Our quarter ended on Friday so I have a week to catch up on all of my negelected piles of work, and have some time to surf without feeling too guilty;)

I am getting together all of my October literature, math centers, and art projects.  There are so many great ideas out there and I love looking at Pinterest and other blogs for inspiration.

One activity that I like to do every year is a little Pumpkin/Riddle craft.   Second graders love riddles, and my October riddle books are so worn out from all the little hands over the years.  I created a pumpkin template and some cute little ghosts.  Write the joke on the pumpkin, and the answer on the ghost.  Make a slit in the top of the pumpkin and pull the ghost through.

I also created a little activity/game to go along with this activity.  Students read a riddle and have to match the correct answer.  Once they are finished they do the worksheet that goes along with it.  This way they are reading, writing and problem solving all in a fun way that doesn't seem like work.  You could even use this activity like I Have, Who Has where the whole class plays and you match up the answers.

To top it off I made a little printable book that has riddles and answers.  You could print them for each child or just a few copies for your class library. I made everything in black and white to save on colored ink!

This is available in my TpT store, but I will send this to the first three people to leave me a comment.  Please leave me your email.

Now I am off with my two daughters to do one of my favorite things.....Thrift Store shopping for Halloween Costumes!!  Have a great first day of October!!
