Aloha everyone! Tomorrow is the first day of school and my classroom is all set to go. It wasn't too difficult getting it ready since I decided to stick with my surf theme.
On Wednesday we received our class lists and I had 18 students. By Friday I was down to 16! 10 boys and 6 girls. I hope I don't lose anymore. I would hate to see one of our second grade teachers lose their spot!
I did some rearranging and I added a few new items. I also got rid of as much as possible to make more room.
Please ignore my messy desk and a few bags on the floor, it wasn't quite the end of the day.
I love having natural light from all windows, but I have no wall space! And when the wind whips through EVERYTHING flies off the desks!!
This is the view from the front of the room.
This is the back of the room.
I moved my cubbies this year and added a number so I wouldn't have to do it again next year.
My math tubs got some new labels.
So did my manipulatives.
Number sense posters in English and Hawaiian. The ten frames are surfboards :)
Word problem posters
Writing Center
Supplies
My updated library. I just love the labels!
New Job Chart. I think it came out so cute.
I love the new clips on the chart!
The buckets got some new labels. Guess I forgot to make myself a new label.
New lunch chart
Surfer of The Week
Class Rules
I have had that rules poster on the left forever!! I think it may be time to update.
My welcome banner
And last but not least my desk.
I am really happy with the wide open feel and all the cute new surf decor.
Last year I hosted a Classroom Theme linky party and I thought it would be really fun to do it again!
Share your classroom theme, or just pictures of your new set up. I love looking at everyone's classrooms and I know others do to! Last year's linky is still my most popular post and has had over 20, 000 views!
Monday is the big day and I am really looking forward to a fun new year with a great new group of kids and teachers! When is your first day? Link up and tell all about it!
Hi Corinna,
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous that you and those other sweet bloggers live/teach in Hawaii. I have always wanted to see Hawaii...when I was in the military a tour of duty in Hawaii was on my wish list...never made it there...maybe one day I'll get to visit. Your room looks F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S!! I hope you have a wonderful year! This is my last week of summer vacation. Then I will be back on the grind too. Surf's Up!

Teaching Maths with Meaning
Your room is incredible! The new decorations look fabulous (totally love the surfboards on the 10 frames!). I have a ton of those little metal buckets and I was looking at them on Thursday thinking what do I do with these. Looking at your writing center I know now, thank you :D.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous school year!

Your classroom looks fabulous..you did an awesome job!! I hope your have a wonderful first week of school!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks awesome! I would LOVE to be a student in your class! How did you make the cowabunga necklaces and can you explain more about them?
ReplyDeleteJoy I created them as reward necklaces. I have all different kinds. They are called Reward Tags in my TpT store. If you click on the picture of them it will take you there :)
DeleteI LOVE your surfing rules.. Great poster!!! Your room is amazing!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi, you classroom is so bright and inviting. Where did you get the little round cushions in your library?
ReplyDeleteCaroline I got those from Scholastic Bonus Points from my book orders :)
DeleteI love, love your classroom, especially the behavior chart and the job chart.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it! When can you come finish what I started? ;) How do you like the desks grouped like that? I've never tried it but a lot of teachers seem to be doing it. I teach 5th and I'm worried that they would be more likely to talk/get distracted. But the usual "groups of 4" is taking too much room and kind of boring. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteThey do talk a lot! But I do my main lessons on the floor in front of the room. I like my kids to be social and they learn more from one another with this set up.
DeleteDo you seriously have a student named Reef ??? Love your set up, so tropical, I would feel like I am on holidays everyday ! I was so jealous when you finished in May that I am happy to say I have another 4 weeks of holidays, we just booked another trip :). Not to rub it in........have a great day tomorrow, can't wait to hear all about it !
ReplyDeleteI wondered too where you got those cute circles for your reading corner ??
ReplyDeleteYour room makes me feel so happy!! Nice job friend and have a great first day! :)
ReplyDeleteTori
p.s... LOVE the clip chart {Drop In-- DUDE!} :)
Thank you so much Tori!
DeleteI am so jealous of your room! My room was about that size last year with a wall full of windows and they moved me to a room half the size this year with no windows. I have 18 desks in my room now with no room to move and they still expect me to fit 5 more desks for 23 students. You did a great job on your room!

Second Grade Perks

Idea to keep papers from blowing... individual clipboards. When I taught second grade each student had a clipboard on their desk. Any current and unfinished work was clipped on it so that as work was complete, they knew right away if they had other work to finish. This prevented crumpled, lost, half done work shoved in their desk or a folder. They knew to put the clipboard up in the left corner of their desk at clean up time. I also made a reference sheet (number line, handwriting strokes, star writing reminders, etc) on one side of light colored cardstock, left the other side blank and put in a page protector. Personal white board! Kids took page and clipped blank side up on top of anything else on board and used for showing answers. Moved back to bottom with reference side up when doing work. Hope that made sense! Love the room!!! Printed your non-hawaiian numbers for my classroom and the clip chart calendars are working great.
ReplyDeleteAloha,
Ruth

Your room looks great Corinna!! I need to actually use my camera to take photos, lol. Your pictures are so bright and clear! What kind of camera do you use? AND...16 kids?! Is that normal?? That sounds like an AMAZING year! I cross my fingers for only 21 kids (and that is wishful thinking!) lol. Have an amazing day tomorrow!!!
ReplyDeleteCourtney
PS: I relinked with a new post! haha I was lazy and cheated earlier :P
Thanks Courtney! I have a Cannon Rebel T3. I dabble a little in photography :) No 16 is NOT the norm for me. We usually have around 20.
