I know many schools across the country have adopted this new curriculum. It's aligned to common core and with everything that it offers it's got you covered.
If you have looked at everything it is very OVERWHELMING! I want to fully implement it, but I still want to keep my own teaching style. I plan on using most of the elements, but I need to really differentiate with my new group of students.
I plan on using my language arts block the same way I have in the past. I will still follow a Daily 5 model, but will be using more of the Wonders resources to implement.
In order to help me plan I created a template with all the components that you need to cover for the week.
This should help me to at least get a general overview of the week, without having to flip through the manual each day. If this might be helpful to you, click on the picture to download it.
My good friend Angelia from Extra Special Teaching has already dove head first into the curriculum and has created supplemental activities for many of the units!!
This is a free resource with some activities to get you started.
She plans on making a pack for each unit and already has a few finished!
The games she has created will be perfect for my word work centers. I love that I won't have to go hunting for the specific skills that we will be focusing on for the week.
My friend Kate from EduKate and Inspire is creating supplemental spelling activities for each unit.
The Wonders program does have spelling lists and activities, but I LOVE the way Kate has laid out the format for her spelling lists. You can check them out {HERE}.
How are you doing with your planning?
If you are implementing Wonders what tips do you have to share?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
These are fantastic resources. Wishing I was teaching second right now...

Hopefully the template will help all grades!
DeleteThank You for this! I will be teaching wonders this year and feeling kinda lost at that moment... We start school in a week and we have not received our curriculum yet.
ReplyDeleteI think we are all feeling the pressure of it all!
DeleteThanks for the shout out!! There are hardly any districts in Ohio using Wonders, so this is yet another reason I am so thankful for the blogging world! I love being able to collaborate and share ideas! Looking forward to seeing how everyone's implementation goes this year!!

Yes, it will be a busy year for sure!!
DeleteAny chance you could offer a planning template that is editable? I love the way you have it set up (and that it's so cute) but I am using the new Journeys curriculum and need to change a few things. Just thought I would try :)
ReplyDeleteJust email me and I would be happy to send you the editable template :)
DeleteI will! Thank you so much!! :)
DeleteThanks so much. I'm in first for the first time and we just met on Wednesday about Wonders-this will help because it's so much!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad it will help!
