I am back in school and I can't say it's in full swing yet, as we are still setting up all of our routines and remembering our rules.
Today I wanted to share something fun that I received this week.
These bracelets came from a wonderful artist in San Diego. Kim Franklin makes these bracelets from recycled books and repurposed beads!! Check out her story {HERE}.
As someone who ADORES books, her jewelry appealed to me immediately. She basically saves old books from being thrown away and makes beads with the pages. Even her packaging is all recycled materials.
I still have books from when I began teaching 24 years ago that I couldn't bear to part with! Books have to be literally falling to pieces before they see the trash in my room.
Kim and her mom work together to create some really pretty and unique jewelry.
I wore my bracelets to school today and a few of my kids told me that they liked them.
I told them they were make from books and they thought that was so cool!
They were super comfortable to wear and I forgot I had them on, which is a good thing.
They have an elastic band so they fit my miniature wrists perfectly.
I can also wear it as an anklet.
Kim and her mom also take custom orders. If there is a special book that you would like to save in a unique way, just contact her and she will be happy to help you out.
I really love the whole idea of trash to treasure. I have been an avid thrift store shopper since I was 13!
I never had a lot of money growing up and I loved to browse the thrift stores with my mom for hours.
I loved finding outfits/treasures that were fun and original and I still do!
We are always trying to teach our students to reduce, reuse and recycle and this is a fun and pretty way to lead by example.
